Connections Community, Inc.

Dear Bess,

Thank you so much for your generous gift of the use of one of your Ford trucks to help us move the thousands of books for our First Annual Book Sale at the Gresham Public Library.  It was such a help and such a beautiful truck to drive.

We thank you also for all the ways you generously donate back to the Gresham community.  I am coming to feel like a partner with you in our mutual mission to strengthen our community.

Blessings and may hour holidays be fruitful.

Warmly,

Ann
Connections Community, Inc.

Barlow Mat Club

Gresham Ford,

The Barlow Mat Club would like to thank you for your support and donation to our program and fundraising event.  With your support, our fundraiser was a great success.  We were able to raise funds to start a scholarship program for children who want to participate in the sport of wrestling, but whose parents can't afford the costs.  Our scholarships will be used by children ages 4 to 14 to cover the participation fees and equipment.

Our coaches work hard to help our young wrestlers become the best that they can be, not only on the mat, but in the classroom and in life.  We focus on helping our children develop life skills; respect, responsibility, and personal character.  Barlow Mat Club's coaches pride themselves on helping children in more than just the sport of wrestling.  Many of our coaches attend the children's other sporting events and school events just to show support to our young athletes.

Your support is greatly appreciated.  We hope that you , your staff, family and friends will be able to attend a youth wrestling event and see some of these children that you have helped.

Again we thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

The Barlow Mat Club

A 4-H Thank you!

Bess Wills,

Thank you so much for your generous donation.  I really appreciate all the support you have given me throughout the years.

I plan on finishing my 2 years of 4-H and Scouts then go study Biomedical Engineering at OSU.  I promise to keep up the hard work.

Sincerely,

Ely

God Bless Your Christmas

I believe in your dealership and will say so to my friends!

God Bless Your Christmas and much success in 2013!

The Snowman Foundation

Dear Ms. Wills,

Gifts like yours make me break into song; I caught myself humming "What a Wonderful World" by Lois Armstrong this morning.  As I sat to write this letter, I sang a few lines from Queen's "We Are the Champions".  And even though the only lyric I know from ABBA's "Thank you for the Music" is "Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing, thanks for all the joy I'm bringing", it seemed appropriate to share that sentiment with you as well.

On behalf of Michael Allen Harrison and the Snowman Foundation board, thank you very much for your gift.  Thank you for all the joy that you are bringing, thank you for all the songs children are singing and playing and creating because of your gift.

Each day, I encounter a different child who has been impacted by a gift from The Snowman Foundation and get to witness their talent, growth and giving.  One of our most longstanding scholarship recipients, has "played" her gift forward by offering no-cost lessons to young musicians, and encouraging kids to explore their own musical passions.

As The Snowman Foundation celebrates more than a decade of making a difference in Oregon and Washington's music community, we recognize that your support is what truly enables us to bring music into the lives of children.  And as I anticipate the next decade, I know that with your support, The Snowman Foundation will continue to help kids make beautiful music.

Very Truly Yours,

Amy
Foundation Manager

Kiwanis International Sponsorship

Dear Bess,

Thank you so much for your generous sponsorship of our 2012 golf tournament.  This year we had a successful tournament with 60 golfers and more than 33 sponsors and 40 donors.

Because of your financial generosity, we raised $7,000 and will be able to continue supporting many programs.  Some of the major programs are; Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp for Disabled Children,  Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Loaves & Fishes, SnowCap Community Charities, Bethany House, Zarapeth's House, and My Father's House.

Thank you, from all of us and from the people whom you have helped.

Almost everything is new

Yes we have a new address, new location and lots of new Ford models and inventory.  We are officially moved.  Our new location is just across the street at 1999 East Powell Blvd (only one block away from our old location- you can't miss the signs).  Don't let all the new construction deter you.  It is worth the trip to see all of our new Ford models:the new Escape, the all new C-Max and the newly redesigned Fusion just to name a few.

The new Fusion just arrived and it is gorgeous!  The new Fusion Hybrid is best in class fuel economy with 47 MPG in the city and on the highway.  The Fusion Titanium has 10-way power drivers seat with power lumbar and two way power recline front 4 way adjustable head restraints and SNYC services, My Ford Touch with Audio System from Sony has 12 speakers and HD radio.  Come find out more about all that the New Ford Fusion has to offer at our new location.

In addition to all the other NEWS we are changing our service hours of operation.  As of November 5th, 2012 we will be open from 7:00am until midnight Monday - Friday and still open Saturday 8am to 4pm.  Now that's news!

But along with all the NEWS you will still see all the same friendly faces, just a few more!  And of course our old fashioned commitment to our community will never change.  We are gearing up for Fill-A-Bag, hope you can join us on November 1st for our bag folding party.  More details to come.

Know When to Fold 'Em

Events not to miss!  Trick or treating in Historic Downtown Gresham will be held Wednesday evening from 4 to 6pm.  If you don't have little ghouls or gremlins it is still worthwhile to come downtown for dinner just to see all the great costumes!  Thank you to all the retailers and restaurants who generously hand out candy to the community for this fun event.

No, its not Texas Hold'em it is Fill-A-Bag Fold-em.  Fill-A-Bag, gathered over 300,000 pounds of food for SnowCap last year and the first event in this process in the Bag Folding Party.  And, yes it is a part with happy hands folding the bags and envelops that will be put in the Outlook to reach our goal for this year and meet the need of providing nutrition for the less fortunate in East County.  Yes, that is the great thing about this project the food all stays here in East County.

The Bag Folding Party is open to the public and will be held at the New Gresham Ford located at 1999 East Powell Blvd. on Thursday November 1st from 5pm until the 10,000th bag is folded.  We are all in  - in making this a successful event.  Lots of community partners are helping, the Breakfast Lions Club, the Gresham Rotary, but we need more help.  10,000 bags are many and lots of hands made quick work!  Bags and envelopes will be available for pickup for your church, club or school after November 1st at Riverview Community Bank 225 East Burnside Road (across the street from Gresham High School) or at Gresham Ford or at Drakes 7 Dees on Stark in Gresham.

Ford Customer Viewpoint

Dear Sirs,

I received the standard Ford Customer after Sales Survey for response concerning my recent purchase of a 2013 For Explorer.

I completed this survey as besst possible, but feel the survey alone does not outline the experience I had in terms of dealing with Gresham Ford. Each sub category listed requires a much more detailed response in my opinion. As the Survey simply does not allow or provide for comments and "Checking a blcok" just seems impersonal when dealing with real people like those of Gresham Ford.

I'm a "Life Long Ford Guy"... over the past 50 years I've bought, traded, owned and sold a multitude of Ford Motor Vehicles. My family members and off spring are also dedicated Ford Folks. As a retired Military Family, we'be literally purchased Ford's around the globe and all over the United States.

Sub Categories: "How Satisfied am I; your Ariveal; my Salesperson' Paying for the Vehicle; Delivery' Sync' Dealer follow up; Recommendation; My Vehicle and finally... About myself".

My "X's"are all in the positive column. I simply am a satisfied customer and Ford Owner. First, from my perspective, the Product sells itself... but the capper is having a Local Dealership like "Gresham Ford" to deal with. Gresham Ford represents the Ford Motor Company, the Product, the Sale and Services Ford Motor Company offers in the best possible light, manner and total professionalism. Gresham Ford is a bit more than a Car dealership. They are an integral part of our community at every level; supporting families, jobs, schools, civic activities, sporting events, scouting and social programs. The staff; from ouwner to lot boys stand prepared to meet and accommodate customer services way beyond the nowm. As for The "Salesperson" ... Mr. Larry Bishop, over the years has sold many vehicles to me and family members... he is not a Car Salesman, but a Ford Representative, who is knowledgeable about every aspect of the Dealership, Products, Services and without question routinely goes way above the norm exceeding all epectations in providing for the sale. Larry is the "Go To Guy" in this Shop and does it all. As stated, over the many years, he has simply become a good Friend. The Service Staff... Russ, Cher, Ryan, John and all the many folks involved in facilitating sales, maintenance, services and products just cannot be found elsewhere. Gresham Ford has a "Team Concept" that works... clearly Bess Wills has surrounded herself with a personable, professional and dedicated staff. "Everyoneinawhile" a good thing comes together... that I think is a great summary of Gresham Ford.

Taking deliver: The last two vehicles I've bought a Gresham Ford were found in another State, picked up by Gresham Staff, driven to Gresham and delivered to me personally. (Service). Telephone calls and status updates of these vehicles were provided during the entire trip. This last vehcile posed a question of "Tow Capabilities", the Sales Staff "Brought a similar vehicle to my home, hooked up my Travel Trailer and we did a Test Ride" with Trailer in tow to ensure its workability... (Service). Teaching an old dog new trickes... yup, they gave a formal Class on "How to " work all the new Computerized Wizardry in my new Ford.

My Vehicle: Love it. Meets and exceeds all that we wanted when shopping for a new Ford.

About me: Retired Command Sergeant Major, US Army. Do I have "Large Expectations, with No BS in the Mix": Yes Sir! My expectations in my dealings with this Dealership over the past 20 years have always been met within the standard of pervious owners. Without reservation, the current management has held this Dealership to a new and high standard of excellence. Without question, Gresham Ford and its current "Team" meet and exceed all my expectations. I think their bottom line is "Service" and everyone on staff is "On Board" with that concept. Services are provided without demand, but rather simply a part of the package. It is a genuine pleasure to deal with the staff of "Gresham Ford", to the person, they are simply the best.

Ford Motor Company would be better served looking at this Dealership as a Model for a "Cookie Cutter Ford Dealerships" around the country.

G.J.S.

Thank you. Your generouse support is proof that using art as a vehicle brings us together and builds community unity. Sincerely, Judy

Adventure Driven BSA Troop 664 of Gresham Oregon

Jerry Jr and his "Adventure Driven BSA Troop 664 of Gresham Oregon", departed today for "Philmont, New Mexico" for an 11 day Back Packing Trek... these young men have great spirit, physical strength, equipped, trained and prepared. This is an "Adventure of a Life Time" ... A very special "Wonderful Support and Sense of Community" this adventure would not have happen but, for the support of Gresham Ford to our Community and local area it equates to and is consistent with the Scouting Spirit. A Picture Perfect Walk

I was so excited this week to receive our "Shoe Pole" at Gresham Ford.  Those quirky poles decorated with everything from stilettos to flip flops indicate that Gresham Art Walk is here!  The Art Walk has come a long way from Judy Han's (local business Sunny Hans Restaurant), brainchild of bringing artists an opportunity to display and sell their art at this event.  The first Art Walk in 2001 had 28 artists, this year we are expecting 140 artists.

Tomorrow, Saturday July 21st 2012 will be a picture perfect day in East County.  The weather will be gorgeous and downtown Gresham will be filled with booth after booth of art.  Just to say "beautiful" would be inadequate.  Go to www.greshamartwalk.com for a sampling of some of the fabulous and diverse works of art.  Many of the artists have notable works and it is free to view.  A true gallery to stroll thru on Main Street in beautiful historic downtown Gresham.

This is a great opportunity to look for just the right gift for someone special or even give yourself a little gift.  Art is truly the gift that keeps on giving.  Can't quit until we give thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers that make this day happen.  Special mention to John Clark at Stamp Connection who is the presenting sponsor and to Greater Gresham Baptist Church who has had 100 volunteers sign-up just to make this community event run even more smoothly.

Operation Goodwill!

Because of the screening, I went
to an appointment and found
out I had breast cancer. I am now
in chemotherapy treatment. The
screening was indicative and was
what made me get a follow-up
appointment. Luckily the cancer
was caught at curable stage.” M.M.,
screened 12/6/11 Bend, OR
In the past decades Ford Motor
Company has been a leader in
corporate responsibility especially in
its efforts to find a cure for breast
cancer. Unfortunately, a cure has not
been found but that has not deterred
their efforts to saving lives. Recently,
the Northwest Ford Dealers launched
Operation Goodwill with a “Women’s
Health Initiative Tour” kicked off
September 28, 2011 at the final Seattle
Mariner’s game, with live TV coverage
during the pre-game show. Beginning
October 1, the tour was on the road for
a six month swing through Washington,
Oregon and Idaho, stopping at least
once in every Northwest Region dealer’s
market. It was in Gresham the last
week of November.
The goal of this initiative was to
provide screenings to women that
otherwise would not be able to afford
an annual mammogram. The response
was great as 48% of the women
screened did not have insurance.
This sure makes you proud to be
a Ford Dealer in the Northwest!
One final quote from one of the
women that participated:
Lost my insurance after being
laid off after 22 years with the
company, insurance gone too, to
young for Medicare and I was denied
Medicaid, this is a blessing in such a
dark time. Thank you Ford!”

Tam Driscoll Woman of the Year

When you go to a City of Gresham event and there is a tall, dark haired, beautiful woman with a smile on her face and a willingness to help everyone she comes in contact with - it is most likely Tam Driscoll.  Over the years as an employee of the City of Gresham she has made our community a better place.  Now is our chance to give her a little support.

She lost a sister, Nancy, to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2009; however, she has been in a fight to find a cure since 2001.  Since that time she has run marathons and done any and all types of fund raisers that have contributed more than $200,000 to finding a cure .  That money has made a difference.  The survival rates for blood cancers continues to grow, but Tam won't be satisfied until they find a cure.  That is probably why she has been nominated to compete as "Woman of the Year" for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

How can we help move that nomination to that well deserved title of "winner"?  Well, from April 5th to June 14th 2012 every dollar Tam raises is a vote.  She is the only candidate affiliated with East County and the only one that does not have huge corporate support, so Google Tam Driscoll and click on the site to make a donation and then make one on behalf of your mother - I am sure she would appreciate the gesture more than another scarf.  P.S. No matter the outcome, Tam you are our "Woman of the Year"!

Charming, Thank you!

Thank you to all the businesses and organizations that are making the "Be Charmed, Shop Local," program so much fun and a great success.  Last Saturday at Farmers' Market I was really impressed with some collectors that already had most of the 48 piece charm set.  I currently have 12 in my collection but have to replace one I gave away this morning, a cute small burger from "Best Burger".  However, my plan in giving that one away was that I would need to make the trip down to see John at Best Burger and buy a "Ranger Burger".  He is donating the proceeds to the USS Ranger project and pick up a replacement charm.  Another real cute charm is a little carrot that can be purchased at Twisted Carrot Restaurant on the corner of Kelly and 8th.  While you are there, have one of their Special Spinach Salads with the to die for dressing that is customer made.

Thank you to the Outlook for running the story Wednesday in the Business Section on the Charm bracelet program.  Yes we get lots of electronic communication, but there is nothing  like the newsprint in hand to generate some local enthusiasm.

Thank you to Jessica Reid who brought the charming idea to our "Try Local First" meeting.  It takes just one person to make a difference in our community because of her willingness to volunteer and share ideas she had seen help businesses in other cities, our community is better and economically stronger too!

Yes, you can drive your school, Reynolds High School to be exact.  The last two events have raised over $5000 for local high schools.  It is so easy, all you have to do is drive a brand new Ford on a short route, answer an even shorter survey and in less time than it takes to put your running shoes on and stretch, you have earned $20 for a local high school.

So, put next Saturday April 14th on your calendar and anytime between 10am and 4pm stop by Gresham Ford and make some money for Reynolds High School.  We all know shrinking budgets have put a strain on your schools and this is Ford Motor Company's way of giving back while providing a NO PRESSURE demonstration of our fine new products.  If you don't drive the Drive 4 UR School, our kids will lose so be a winner and Drive For Your School.  See you Saturday!!!

This event is courtesy of Gresham Ford's Contribute to the Community Program in conjunction with Ford Motor Company.  Events like this are just one reason Gresham Ford is one of only two 2011 Ford Motor Company Presidents Awards Dealerships in Oregon.

May a Shamrock Find You....

Two years ago, thought it seems only yesterday we were fortunate to spend our vacation on the beautiful emerald isle of Ireland.  The people there are truly the nicest people on earth and some of the best writers or recent generations have been Irish.  Their wit and humor is something not easily replicated and always seems to put a smile on your face!  Here are a few examples: "May good luck be with you wherever you go and your blessings outnumber  the shamrocks that grow!"  "May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day.  May songbirds serenade your every step along the way.  May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that's always blue.  Any may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through."  "May you have the hindsight to know where you've been.  The foresight to know where you're going.  And the insight to know when you have gone too far."  "May the saddest day of your future be no worse than the happiest day of your past."  Wish I could write such fare but nonetheless I love to share!

Tom Thanks Bess and the Gresham Ford Family

Dear Bess -

My wife and I took a 5,500 mile road trip in our 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid in late October and November 2011.  The vehicle had 79,000 miles on it and while I had not had any problems with it I was a little leery about taking it on a 19 day trip into the wilds of Montana, Utah and California.  It performed beautifully - giving us 30 mpg and only 1 time did it need extra attention- new front windshield wipers (replacing the originals).  I love this vehicle!

Eastrose Fellowship Unitarian Universalist

Eastrose Fellowship Unitarian Universalist church has met in Gresham since 1956 and is located at 1133 NE 181st. Their status a qualified non-profit organization has paved the way for them to take advantage of the Gresham Ford "Commitment to the Community" program.  With over one hundred members and friends who live in the East Portland, Gresham, Troutdale and Sandy areas, the Gresham Ford service department is close and services all makes and all models.  When members have, for instance, an oil change and they are paying the receptionist/cashier, they ask for their tithe to go to the Eastrose Fellowship Unitarian Universalist Church.  Gresham Ford then donates 10% of the invoice on a monthly basis.

On Saturday April 21st 2012 they will be having the annual 19th Annual Service and Goods Auction for their fellowship.  The theme this year is "Green and Growing!"  Gresham Ford is donating three $25 gift certificates good to the Gresham Ford Quick Lane; where you never need an appointment and we service all makes and all models.

If you are interested in attending or donating yourself you can contact 503.665.2628 or by fax at 503-465-8978.

Letter from Jerry and Hanne

As a qualifying statement; let me begin with: I have over the past 50 years been a "FORD Guy".

Since 1987, (Returning to Gresham/Home) me and my family members extended, have purchased several automobiles, trucks and SUV's from Gresham Ford.  In the past 5 years or so; collectively we have noticed an extreme change in how Gresham Ford conducts business and has integrated into the Community in such a positive manner.

Community action, support and like contributions on your part demonstrate a sound commitment to the Community and is most appreciated.  Among the many other attributes, Gresham Ford enjoys a sound reputation for sales and service.  I'm not sure that standard applies to many "Car Dealerships" both locally and in you're doing at Gresham Ford, your doing it right.

Putting sales aside (Which has always been a painless experience for us): having maintenance services done by Gresham Ford is the timeliest and most professional adventure in Vehicle Maintenance Services I've ever experienced at a "Dealership"!  The "Staff", starting with Ryan and ending with Cher is by far the most congenial and positive fraction anyone entering the Maintenance area could ask for.  Never have I had an issue that didn't gain their full attention, always ending with a just resolve.

Recently, (during a routine maintenance check), I was advised that my truck was in need of tires.  I was given printouts with several price and tire options...  Knowing a "dealership " is the last place to buy tires; I spoke to Cher about prices, etc. she mentioned that "Gresham Ford would match the price if I found like tires cheaper or equal elsewhere."

I did my homework and went shopping ...of all the Brand Name Tire Stores in the surrounding area, I could not match the price offered by Gresham Ford...ion fact, for the same tires, Gresham Ford was several hundred dollars cheaper an hosted the same level of warranty.  Clearly impressed, I purchased the tires at Gresham Ford.  Ryan had the tires mounted, tweaked and I was outta there in little over an hour; satisfied with the product and the outstanding service.

If the plan is to become a "Full Service Dealership"... your well on the way.  I appreciate good service and enjoy dealing with the great folks and personalities at Gresham Ford, it more "Communal than Business" first,  I'm just not sure you can mass that many good folks in one company anywhere else, from sales to service you have much to be proud of.

Respectfully,

Jerry and Hanne

What would they say?

Bess Wills - General Manager
Gresham Ford
It was flattering to have my picture on the front page of the Gresham Outlook and thank you Sarah for taking time to interview local women and myself in honor of 100th year anniversary of women's suffrage.  To be honest I truly hadn't thought about this historical celebration until she called for the interview.  It caused me to think about how my life would have been different if I had been born in another generation.  These thoughts have me reason to honor some great women in my family - I never knew them personally and would be so curious to have had the change to hear their feelings on this subject.

My paternal great-grandmother left Missouri around the age of 11 in a covered wagon and headed to California to find their fortune!  She married, raised 8 children, buried one; help build 3 houses, two burned to the ground.  Planted a garden, cooked, cleaned, and did the hundred other things that were required to live on a ranch 22 miles from the nearest town for the near 90 years of her life.  She lived most of her life without the right to vote.

My maternal grandmother was born in Oregon then went to Chico in Northern California and earned her college degree as a teacher.  Her father had left her mother with three daughters to raise and only one of them had the opportunity for college - luckily it was she.  After graduation she found a job teaching at several small country schools, she worked to care for her grandmother, mother and sisters.  She met my grandfather they married and she lived a tough country life thru the great depression while her husband lost his sleg while she was in the hospital giving birth to their second child.  Then she passed way too early from breast cancer.  The year she left for college was the same year the 19th Amendment was ratified to the United States Constitution.  For all those women that preceded us - Thank you.

Harold's Thank You Note to Bess

Dear Bess:

Please forgive me for not writing sooner, to express my appreciation for your outstanding help in the purchase of my 2012 Expedition King Ranch.

The vehicle is the best I have ever owned; I am so very pleased with the complete experience at Gresham Ford.  My new Expedition in little words is just plain exciting.

I not only purchased, a new vehicle; I was able to make many friends at Gresham Ford and that is worth more than any amount of monetary transaction.

My fondest regards to Preston and Jim whom I found totally priceless.

Sincerely,

Harold
